Deborah, I believe the force of the explosion observed at Tall al-Hammam and the soaking of the area with dead sea salt water was calculated to have come from an explosion of approximately 10 megatons. That is ten million tons of tnt going off at once.
I was kind of teasing you about the slow burning bitumen, Deborah. 🙂 I know you’ve referenced carts pulling bitumen. My point was to help you see that it is not explosive and it should not be thought of as a potential cause for a ten megaton blast.

Perhaps helpful to locate Sodom (which is now destroyed or in an uncertain location) finding major roads in antiquity that don’t seem to serve a purpose could be helpful. Sodom could have been buried, but the roads leading to it would, at a distance, not have been destroyed. Find the roads and we might find the city.
