Jebel Musa in the southern Sinai Peninsula and Petra in the Transjordan are 245 linear km apart, more by road of course. But the people who now advocate for Kadesh at Petra are doing so because they locate Mount Sinai in the western Hejaz (the Arabian Peninsula). Jebel al-Lawz and Petra are 185 linear km apart. If you are going to do that, you have to explain how come the Wilderness of Paran is also in the Transjordan (the itinerary from Mount Sinai to Kadesh immediately enters the WoP). And you have to locate three stations for Taberah, Kibroth-hattaavah, and Hazeroth in the Transjordan, and also the other springs of the Kadesh district, Addar, Karka, Azmon, and relate the whole thing to the Wadi of Egypt (Wadi al-Arish) somehow. It is a non-starter so far as geographical context is concerned. The Saudi Sinai advocates are cavalier with the itinerary data. They are all about the features of the mountain, the black top, the split rock, and not a lot else.
