    Thanks, James, for the ref. Good to know there is a Classic NETBible archive. The 1st ed. footnote to Num 1:21 briefly surveys the options for reinterpreting the figures for the population of the exodus, concluding that nothing can be established without new information. This is true for just about every historical aspect of the exodus and wanderings. Most scholars would say there is no avenue whereby anything new can be known other than through archaeology which has not been very favourable to the exodus story for the century of its existence. Archaeology cannot shed light on the exodus population, especially if it cannot even find the remains from that event. Bible believers truly are at that figurative moment between the army and the sea, waiting for the waters to part 🙂
