Our church group watched a video about Larry Williams and Bob Cornuke who explored the route from Egypt to Mount jebel-el-laws which was also in the 1990s. We are wondering if anyone has explored there since that time. Someone also shared a NY Times article that said the “pros doubt that they found the real Mount Sinai”. Does anyone know more? I find this fascinating!

Hello Shirley! Yes, there are people that have continued to explore and do more research on Jabal al-Lawz (Jabal al-Maqla) as a possible candidate for Mount Sinai. As of 2019, it is also no longer illegal to travel there and some of the current generation of researchers even lead tours to the mountain and sites in the surrounding area.

There are some professionals, such as Dr. Glen Fritz, who advocate for it as being Mount Sinai and other scholars who believe Mount Sinai should be looked for in the NW province of Saudi Arabia at the very least.

There are many proposed locations for Mount Sinai ranging from sites in the Sinai Peninsula, to sites in the NW area of Saudi Arabia, and even into the Negev of Israel. Patterns of Evidence will be exploring some of these proposed candidates in our upcoming films and seeing where the Biblical, geographical, historical, and archaeological evidence fits best.
